Sherri Shepherd Opens Up About Divorce ‘Craziness’ For First Time

Though Sherri’s divorce drama with ex Lamar Sally has been all over the news since early May — he filed for legal separation and custody of their unborn child and she filed for divorce 10 days later — ‘The View’ co-host has stayed out of it. Until now.

The View‘s Sherri Shepherd is done hiding from her divorce filing from Lamar Sally! After the exes engaged in legal warfare in early May while cheating rumors flew and custody demands were made, Sherri spoke on the drama for the first time on the Samsung Hope for Children Gala in New York City on June 10, and admitted that while she is in serious pain, she knows it’s something she has to go through to grow as a person.

Sherri Shepherd Talks Lamar Sally Divorce

“Growth is hard and growth is a struggle,” she told E!, “and it hurts and you’ve got to go through that in order to grow or you stay the same.” Sherri continued, “And also, I feel as long as you can get up and look up, you have another chance and another chance to make things right. Again, going through all my craziness, I hope that my character and my integrity speaks for me, so I stand behind that.”

Not only did Lamar file for a legal separation on May 2, he rubbed salt in Sherri’s open wound by also requesting to be given full custody of their unborn child, which is being carried by a surrogate. Sherri, not taking the harsh legal filings lying down, then went a step further by filing for a full-on divorce. To make things even worse, Sherri’s ex-husband, Jeff Tarpley, then filed for custody of their nine-year-old son, Jeffrey, on May 16, accusing Sherri of neglect and calling her a “terrible” mom.

But Jeffrey was all Sherri could talk about on June 10, as she told E! that she still wants to bring him up in a world full of love, despite her relationship troubles. “I try to bring my son up to be a kind person,” she said. “My son loves making people laugh and I think that will get a girl any day, any time. If you can make a woman laugh, that’s like gold, but I think being kind and being able to forgive [is most important].”

Sherri Shepherd: Is She Ready To Date Again?

As for her own love life, Sherri is definitely not ready to jump back in the dating pool. “I may not be the best person to ask at this time about a guy,” she laughed on the carpet. “But check back with me in a year about that subject!”

We’re marking it down on our calendars, Sherri.
